Dorothy Beeman

My name is Dorothy Beeman and I am delighted to be the Director for Aldersgate Christian Preschool.  I joined ACP in July, 2015 after our Director of over 20 years, Chris Antrobus, retired.  I am looking forward to getting to know you and your children personally.

When I moved to Washington in 1988 I immediately felt at home in the Pacific Northwest.  My husband, Brad, grew up here and we have raised four children together.  Our youngest, Cora, graduated from Newport High School and now attends George Fox University in Newberg, OR.  Our other children are Ben, Laura and Adam who all live in the Seattle area and we are fortunate to see them often.  Among my interests are hiking, kayaking, biking, gardening and yoga.  Brad and I are musicians and we both play guitar and sing.  I was raised in the United Methodist Church and have been singing in church choirs since I was a small child.

My expertise is in preschool administration and directing.  While my husband attended seminary, we lived in Los Angeles and Santa Monica, CA for seven years where I worked as the Assistant Director for two very large, well respected preschools.  I have been a teacher for preschoolers aging in range from 6 weeks to Pre-K.  While teaching in the classroom, I developed practices for licensed childcare facilities to meet and exceed the expectations of the Department of Early Learning here in Washington.

I am the youngest of five children born and raised in New York City and attended the City University of New York at Kingsborough College in Brooklyn, New York.  Anatomy and Physiology was my major before getting married and then I changed my focus to Early Childhood Education and Administration while staying home to raise our children.  My philosophy about children and teaching is based on a traditional, developmental foundation.  I believe in nurturing a love of learning in children through every day activities and play.  My approach is to provide opportunities for children to explore their world, encourage curiosity, and engage their minds all at a level that is developmentally appropriate for the individual child.

I am excited for the possibilities that await us here at Aldersgate Christian Preschool.  I have creative ideas that I look forward to implementing both for and with your child.  And I look forward to getting to know you all as we work together to provide the best possible beginning to your child’s lifelong passion for learning.
